Ballyhass Sprint 2021

I Beat Ballyhass!

On Sunday the 26th of September, 200 athletes ranging from 13 years of age upwards put their stamina to the test completing the second annual ‘Ballyhaas Sprint’ Triathlon.  It was the final event in Triathlon Ireland’s National Series Calendar.  Hosted by Mallow Triathlon Club, in association with Triathlon Ireland, the event took place in the wonderful multipurpose surroundings of Ballyhass Lakes in Mallow.

This year, Mallow Tri Club was proud to host the Youth National Series Aquathlon race for junior athletes. The programme included a National Series Adult Race and a National Series Junior Race for 12-13 year olds; 14-15 year olds and 16-17 year olds. The main sprint consisted of a 750m swim in the waters of Ballyhass Lakes, a 22km cycle over a fast course and finishing with a 5km run.  The 12-13 year olds category consisted of a 400m swim and a 2km cycle, while the 14-15 year olds consisted of a 500m swim and a 3km run, and the 16-19 year olds involved a 750m swim, 22km cycle and a 5km run.  This was our first year hosting the youth event and all went smoothly and safely.

A special thanks to the local businesses who kindly sponsored the event, Ballyhass Group for their facilities, Triathlon Ireland, volunteers, marshals and everyone who took part on the day as well as the community of Castlemagner and Cecilstown for their cooperation and support during the sprint.
